I want to be able to share my current location while on road trips so that my friends/family can see my progress in real-time.

It used to do that and it was SO COOL!

Surprised this feature is not available yet since you posted this in 2021 which is almost two years ago. Should be very simple with GPS and your smart phone to let family and friends track you.
