Create feature to reset waypoints to most efficient order
Eric Dickerson
This happens automatically in MOST caseS; for example if you start a new trip and add random points along it and all points are “active” it will add in the most efficient order, most of the time. HOWEVER, as soon as you turn any points off it loses this ability and adds points seemingly randomly in the trip. But it is NOT adding them randomly… it seems adding them based on where YOU physically are in relationship to the route ONLY when any point on the route is turned off in the itinerary. You can prevent this by turning all trip waypoints on, then adding a new point(s).
Here is a simple way to see this in action:
Let’s say I start a trip from L.A. to NYC and I randomly add 7 waypoints evenly spaced between. The iOS app will add those in the most efficient drive time order, despite what order I add them in.
Now if I add a point at Gateway Arch in St Louis… it too goes in order… now remove that Gateway Arch point from itinerary.
NOW, turn off the LA starting point, then add a stop at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO… this stop should be inserted as #5, between Springfield MO and Indianapolis IN… in my example… however it is added as #4. This makes my route; Oklahoma City> St Louis > Springfield Mo (backtracking) > Indianapolis….
Theoretical reasoning: when I did the above I was physically in Central Louisiana. Based on where you are in relation to the trip it seems to add the point in a different order. For example if I add a point on the TX / OK border (logically should be #2) it adds it as #3.
Since this app is specifically for PLANNING a road trip, it SHOULD NOT take into consideration where I am, nor if any points are turned off. It should always add points in their most efficient order in the trip.
